My first thoughts on the Nicki Minaj and Cardi B beef is if I had the money that either one of these women have, the last thing I would be doing is fussing and fighting. Too many beaches, too many cocktails to be had.
But if I had to indulge in this rap beef, I have a few things to say.
One: Nicki isn’t old. Jay Z is an old a** rapper, Nicki is not. Young people think they are going to be young forever, I get it. You cute sis, your skin is still popping but one day, you’re going to wake up and realize that you have a liquor belly that isn’t cute and your metabolism has slooooooowed down so you can’t eat hot cheetos for breakfast anymore. It happens to all of us.
And being 30 isn’t too old for being petty. I see petty 30-somethings on my timeline all day. And because Nicki is in her thirties, she can’t respond to what she feels is wrong? This is one helluva handicap y'all seem hell-bent on giving this black woman.
What kinda Queen isn't allowed to respond to someone throwing a shoe at her and nonstop talking sh!t about her?
Two: Nicki can be problematic , but who isn’t? If this is Nicki’s karma, when is R. Kelly, 50 Cent, Drake, Em, and all the other douchebags gonna get their karma?
And karma for what? What did Nicki do to you personally?
Third: Maybe, just, maybe, Nicki is upset that she as a Black woman had to work twice as hard to get what's easily given to a younger, lesser talented non Black woman. Nicki had to pay her dues for years before being crowned the Queen. Her writing has always been questioned, her sexual history has always been on forefront, yet for some reason, this culture is just itching to have a Latina be the face of rap.
Someone who doesn’t have the fraction of the talent that this Black woman has. Someone who doesn’t even take the art of rap seriously.
If Cardi B was a dark-skinned Black woman from the Bronx who was named after her father’s favorite drank, who has the vernacular of Cardi, who willing became baby mama number three, who throws shoes at other women, she would be dragged for filth.
I am not drinking the Hennessy or Kool-aid because as a Black woman, I know I am the most unprotected woman in the world. I know Black men aren’t going to cape for me and neither are Black women. We tote “sis” but most don’t really wanna see their “sis” winning.
White supremacy has done a number on us. Black women can't ever win for losing.
